WHole Foods for Healing

NOURISHING YIN FOODS

Every phenomena can be categorized as Yin & Yang. Noting is constant and everything changes, winter change to spring, spring to fall. Transformation happens either we believe in Yin & Yang phenomena or not. Here are some example of Yin & Yang:

Yin                                                               Yang

Earth                                                           Heaven

Feminine                                                    Masculine

Cold                                                             Heat

In Chinese Medicine, Yin considered as a feminine quality, and predominates in women. Yin is moistening & coolant of the body. It can easily get damaged by stress & competition. For this reason, specially women have to protect themselves from various forms of environmental harshness.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF YIN DEFICIENCY

  • Ligaments & Tendons tightness and pain
  • Dryness – Eyes or throat
  • Itchy – Scalp, nasal passages, skin, hay fever, allergies
  • Headaches, irritability

Some of these symptoms may get worse in Spring if related with Liver Yin Deficiency. Symptoms of Hay fever and allergies usually get worse in Spring time. Spring is the time that Liver Qi is the strongest in the body and best time to take care of your Liver. Spring is the season of rejuvenation and sprouting, Liver is the only organ in the body that has capability of regeneration.

HOW TO DEAL WITH YIN DEFICIENCY

Traditional Chinese Medicine which includes Acupuncture has gained    worldwide acceptance and recognition.

The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as an effective medical treatment, stating “the sheer weight of evidence demands that acupuncture must be taken seriously as a chemical procedure of considerable value”.

The State of California recognizes Licensed Acupuncturist as primary health care providers. Licenses are issued only after completion of three to four year course of post-graduate study and the passing of an extensive written examination. Over 12 million Americans have turned to acupuncture. Personal insurance, work comp and auto insurance coverage for acupuncture is widespread. Acupuncture  is becoming the complementary treatment of choice for Americans.

Oriental Medicine dates back 3000 years to Japan, Korea, India, Tibet and China. It is made even more effective today due to scientific advances such as electric stimulators which can reduce the number of treatments needed.

The traditional explanation for how Acupuncture works is as follows: The flow of “life energy” called Qi (pronounced chi) runs throughout the body in muscle and organ channels (called meridian). Most acupuncture points are located along these meridians. We tap into these points to release channel blockages and to move energy, thereby balancing and strengthening muscle and organ systems. In Chinese there is a saying, “there is no pain if there is free flow, if there is pain there is no flow”.

ACUPUNCTURE BENEFITS:

  • Achieve relief for a Medical condition through Acupuncture.
  • Acupuncture is a method of healing to help you deal with the stresses of daily life.
  • Through Acupuncture you can maintain your good health.

Each patient will be treated individually based on diagnosis and health history. My goal is to restore each patient’s healing energy and help them to find their healthy balance.

ACUPUNCTURE & KNEE PAIN

Arthritis & Knee pain is the most common disorder that affects bones & all the tissues around it. One of the most common injury to knee is meniscus injury or reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament & cartilage. This condition gets worse with age and it could cause disability and loss of movement and activities.

Acupuncture can effectively treat this disorder by releasing the stagnation and blockages in related channel of energy or meridian. In Chinese Medicine, lack of free flow of Qi causes pain and by using Acupuncture,  moxibustion and herbal medicine, you can restore your body’s Qi and remove blockages.

In a study of Acupuncture & Moxibustion as an adjunctive treatment for Osteoarthritis of the knee, 563 patients were treated by Acupuncture and Moxibustion. 88% of patients were female with an average age of 65 years old. The condition in most patients was chronic and 54% had the condition for 5-10 years and 23% for more than 10 years.

Of the total, 75% of patients achieved a reduction in pain of 45% or more.

Pain Relief through Acupuncture

Pain is the most common health condition among workers. Latest research shows more than six in ten adults over the age of 30 experience chronic pain.

ASK YOURSELF:

  • Do your fingers feel numb? Do they tingle or burn?
  • Do your hands seem to have less strength?
  • Do your wrists and hands ache with computer use or repetitive actions?
  • Do you wake up with stiff & curled fingers?
  • Do you have pain in your forearms or elbows?

You may have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or a related Repetitive Strain injury, such as tendonitis. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome accounts for more than 60% of workplace injuries.

WESTERN MEDICINE APPROACH:

  1. Anti-inflammatory drugs which gives temporarily relief but is damaging stomach lining after repeated usage.
  2. Surgery which leaves some scar tissue and in long term the growth of tissue may bring the pain back.
  3. Bracing which doesn’t take care of the root cause of problem and cause more weakness in local muscle.

ACUPUNCTURE & ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE APPROACH:

Studies have shown that the most effective treatment is:

  • Acupuncture
  • Herbal therapy/Nutrition
  • Massage
  • Specific Exercises

The new ACOEM guidelines (The American COllege of Occupational and Environmental Medicine) state the following:

Acupuncture is recommended for select use for treatment of chronic moderate to severe neck pain, chronic myofacial pain, chronic low back pain, and osteoarthritis of the knee or hip as an adjunct to  more efficacious treatments.
